awake and unafraid

idk man i think that if you can read dozens and dozens of trans men talking about how their support systems abandoned them when they started getting too masculine on T or had top surgery or whatever, and queer spaces started treating them like threats or potential predators, and you find these stories going back to the 90s or even earlier, and you read all of that and come away thinking that there’s nothing wrong with how progressive communities treat men, you are just fundamentally beyond help dude. you don’t see us as people

a lot of people are somehow misinterpreting this post as saying that trans women Don't experience alienation or ostracization from queer, feminist, and/or progressive communities, to which i say: i am not responsible for your belief that trans men and trans women have to have entirely separate and opposite experiences. if you think that trans men experiencing something implies that trans women can't experience it, that's on you! you might want to sit and have a think about how you see the world and whether or not you're buying into the (deeply patriarchal!) idea that men and women are entirely separate from each other. you might learn something.

can’t trust anyone who criticises the mamma mia movie. like wtf are you even criticising. the plot?? the characterisation?? my brother in christ they put meryl streep, colin firth and amanda seyfried on an island, got them drunk and asked them to sing abba songs in the campest way possible that’s LITERALLY. IT. by this point you have to just assume that you’re the problem.

does. DOES THIS MEAN THAT MEDICARE/AID WILL COVER SURGERIES EVEN IF YOU DIDNT MEET THE BMI BEFORE?

Got an answer from a savvy anon btw:

they will probably take a while to change their rules. insurance (especially government insurance) changing their rules takes ages of bureaucracy and probably will not change in the next year or two. but the fact that the AMA updated its stance on BMI means that things will probably head in the direction youre hoping for (i.e. not requiring a specific BMI for certain surgeries and instead taking a more integrated approach)

Gradually getting more bland and cookie cutter

Shoutout to whoever picked a golf to use for this infograph, because it’s probably an intentional reference to the “Harlequin” golf, which as you can see by comparing the modle to the infograph, is unfortunately a relic of the time when colors were winning.

picture of a 1996 Volkswagen golf with a license plate that says "rainbow". it has a yellow front bumper and front door, teal hood, rear bumper and rear door, purple grill and front side panel, and red rocker panel, roof, and rear side panel.

saw someone refer to not knowing how to keep track of your money as "girl math" ......why are we in this weird era of treating women like idiots but repackaging it to sound cute and quirky. We All Need To Stop

at this point i also take issue with those tweets/posts that are of the genre “girls were meant to sit in their bed with treats and do nothing all day” it was fun and #relatable maybe the first few times but it’s really just feeding into this weird mass objectification and dehumanization of women going on all over every social media platform now

"gay panic" as a term for feeling anxious about being attracted to someone is such a tidy little encapsulation of some of the issues of liberal queer discourses online.

firstly, it is a wild, ahistorical misremembering of what this term actually described, which is (beyond parody) a legal defense for murdering a gay person because you found out they were gay and were worried they were hitting on you.

secondly, its implicit sentiment is so hand-wringingly self-conscious about the speaker's relationship with their own sexuality and attraction. it's a term proliferated specifically because it perfectly slots into the niche of "I want to express that I'm Gay but I'm too anxious to be earnest about it because I am too afraid of my own gayness. I need a way to mitigate the assertion of my identity and sexuality. I want to express that I'm horny but, in a cute, twee, approachable way that says, no, really, I know that it's gross that I'm gay, and I'm thoroughly anxious about it."

thirdly, this image of self-conscious gay attraction is one that is so utterly sexless. it's an expression of attraction which never voices itself beyond internal terror. it would be unthinkable to said person to just. ask if the person you are attracted to would want to have sex with you. indeed there's a degree of balking at this sentiment, that someone could be so forthright (dare I say, communicating) about their attraction to a person. nay! rather must we quibble and waffle in a puddle of our own self-loathing.

your ancestors did not suck dick in a park bathroom at risk of arrest for this future.

was talking to my gf about my fear of dying young for being trans and my mom putting my deadname on my gravestone, and she said "i hope that never happens, but if it does, i will carve your name into your grave myself if i have to." and i think theres something extremely raw about that sentiment and trans community in general. you can kill only our bodies, but you cant kill transsexuality
